1916 Society: Creating an Enduring Legacy at Northern Westchester Hospital

Northern Westchester Hospital (NWH) has served our community with distinction since 1916.

At that time, in the wake of the 1910 flu epidemic, New York City hospitals were crowded and hard to get to, and most people could not afford to travel to the city for medical care. Community leaders realized they needed to build a hospital in their own community and provide high-quality health care close to home.

And so, after raising $12,000 from the community, the 12-bed hospital was opened in 1916. Now, more than 100 years later, we have 245 beds and provide medical care to tens of thousands of our neighbors every year, fulfilling and expanding on our founders’ vision.

At NWH, our story continues to be marked by loyal and generous community support, steadfast commitment to leading-edge technology, the finest clinical services, and providing exceptional patient-centered care for every member of our community.

You, too, can make a lasting mark on NWH’s future and invest in your community by joining the 1916 Society, a legacy group composed of thoughtful friends who have named NWH as a beneficiary in their wills or estate plans.

A planned gift is a simple and very impactful way to combine charitable giving with other goals. There are many ways to support NWH while realizing financial and tax benefits for you and your family. Contact Gaby Golod Greenwald at 914-242-8392 or ggreenwald@northwell.edu if you have included a gift to NWH in your will so we can welcome you as a member of our 1916 Society. Please also call her if you need bequest language, would like a free life-income proposal, or seek more information about making a gift.
